LibraryThing turns out to be yet another thoroughly enjoyable way to lose several hours on the web.
Once I’d input my depleted collection this morning (which is dead easy – quite often I add with one click if another user has already added the same title and edition), I tootled around the site a bit more….ok, a lot more, finding out who else has books that I have, who has the most books in common with me, how many other users have tagged their books the same as mine – it just goes on.
I found that I was thrilled when I saw that only one or two other users had a copy of one of my books, and near ecstatic when I had input a unique book. Unique to LibraryThing , that is. It’s easy to get carried away.
A pity LiveJournal users cannot yet use the online ‘widgets’ to connect directly between blog and LT, soon I expect.
Now I have to photograph and upload all the missing book covers. Another day down the drain. But what a way to go.
Oh gawd, you’ve got me hooked now! And i’ve already got a unique book!
Wonderful isn’t it! And terrible! Tell all your friends…..
I now have lots of unique books. “The witchcraft and flklore of dartmoor” might be just a tad specialised…
I found I had lots of unique books or books shared with only one Thinger, but thinking about it I realised that when I had the big clear out, I very carefully selected which books I would keep. These would naturally tend to be hard to find or specialised titles (Letters From Gourgounel or Swimming To Cambodia, for instance) so it’s no surprise.
What did surprise me is that you and I only have Bill Drummond’s 45 in common, but a closer look reveals that you have shitloads of John Michell, Janet or Colin Bord and other stuff that I had until 4 years ago.
Thank the gods there isn’t a LibraryThing section for “books I used to have but lost, sold, gave away or were borrowed and never returned”.
I couldn’t find you, but then I’m new to the site and still working out all the things.
I could tell you how to find me, but digging around is half the fun.
I know, i just found serpentbearer.
I’m just blogging about it because I just found out that there’s another astrology sign that I didn’t knew exists.

Er, was that meant for me?
Don’t know what’s going on with these comments…some kind of weird spam?
Looks like it. Just.
If he would only make it up, she would have done the apologising part herself. But that was not a boy’s way.
He would tell her that if only she’d done what he told her, then he would not have been forced to punish her.
“It’s the best sort of Argo I can manage, and it’s all right if you only pretend enough; but YOU never could pretend one bit.

But my dear friend got me hooked when she forced me to read the enchantingly enjoyable Key trilogy.
I’m stunned by the fact that no-one else has Peter Frame’s Rock family trees!
I remember Frame’s family trees from the old “Zigzag” magazine in the ’70s. He’s obsessive and no mistake. There’s a similar website based in Australia. If I remember it I’ll get back to you.
